Welcome to the latest edition of Datawallet Daily. As always, we have scoured Crypto Twitter and the news to bring you the top stories of the last 24 hours:

Uniswap V4 Release Date Announced

The Uniswap Foundation recently announced on Twitter that Uniswap v4, highly anticipated for its innovative features, is slated for release in Q3 of this year. This new version introduces "hooks," enabling developers to customize smart contracts for greater flexibility and efficiency. This means users can look forward to reduced transaction fees, improved asset management, and new features like instant swaps.

With the upcoming Dencun upgrade in March 2024, Ethereum will see the activation of key Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), notably EIP-1153. This proposal is crucial for Uniswap v4 as it introduces transient storage, allowing for "flash accounting" to significantly cut gas fees. It also facilitates the integration of various functions at different stages in a liquidity pool's lifecycle, optimizing smart contract functionality.

To ensure a seamless and secure launch, the Uniswap Foundation has declared that the v4 code will undergo extensive auditing, making it one of the most rigorously checked codes in Ethereum's ecosystem.

Starknet’s Airdrop and Team Unlocks Stir Controversy

Starknet faced a lot of criticism after its STRK token airdrop on February 14, mainly because many people thought they would get tokens but didn’t. This upset led to lots of complaints on social media and made Argent, a key Starknet wallet, set up a special discord ‘airdrop-vent’ channel for people to share their frustrations.

Concerns also rose about the plan to release 1.3 billion STRK tokens to Starkware’s team and early backers in April, which is relatively soon after the token begins trading. Starkware’s CEO, Eli Ben-Sasson, tried to calm fears by saying the team is in it for the long haul and not just for quick gains. Despite the upset, some, like Jason Choi from Tangent, thought the airdrop was well-planned.

Genesis Receives Court Approval to Sell $1.6B Grayscale Shares

Genesis received court approval to sell its Grayscale bitcoin ETF shares, valued at $1.6 billion, amidst bankruptcy proceedings. The judge allowed the sale without a fixed timeline and denied Digital Currency Group’s (DCG) involvement, citing potential conflicts of interest. Genesis can convert these shares to Bitcoin or cash as part of its asset liquidation strategy under Chapter 11.

The decision to sell includes not only Bitcoin ETF shares but also holdings in Grayscale’s Ethereum and Ethereum Classic Trusts. This strategic move occurs despite DCG’s objections, which argue that the bankruptcy plan unfairly favors a small group of creditors with larger payouts.

Citi Tokenizes Private Equity on Avalanche

Citigroup, in collaboration with Ava Labs and other financial entities, has successfully conducted a proof-of-concept for tokenizing private equity funds on the Avalanche blockchain. This innovative project simulated operations within the private equity sector, revealing the transformative potential of blockchain technology.

Despite showcasing benefits like increased automation and efficiency, the initiative highlighted significant legal and technical hurdles that need addressing, including regulatory compliance and secure data management. Citigroup remains optimistic about the future of blockchain in revolutionizing private equity, emphasizing the need for further development to overcome existing challenges.
